A bit more about our
programs...
As a certified 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, Urban Fusion Percussion, Encore Colorguard Ensemble and P.U.M.P. (Positive Urban Music Project) are all projects of the New Bedford Dakota Foundation. All programs are
operated SOLELY by volunteers.
First and foremost, we center on providing a positive, character building
environment, bringing together children from all backgrounds.
While we focus on instilling traits such as teamwork, self-discipline, personal growth, and respect, we also strive to give each child an experience
they can benefit from well after leaving our program. We do this within a “Musical Arts” environment.
Currently ALL programs under The New Bedford Dakota Foundation are currently utilizing the Search Institute's framework for positive youth development, otherwise known as the Developmental Assets and/or Asset Building.
We see children as our most valued Assets!

How does the youth benefit from
Urban Fusion, Encore and P.U.M.P.
?
We created these programs specifically to provide positive “life
experiences”. Our youth
learn traits that will benefit them throughout their lives well after leaving our prorams. They devlop a sence of
hard work, self-discipline, and teamwork. Social skills
are also improved as they learn to positively interact within various peer-to- peer
and peer-to- mentor relationships.
Musical Arts? Tell me more.
The organization currently has three distinct groups: Two Percussion Groups (beginner & advanced), a Colorguard (winterguard) Group, and a Electronic Music Creation Program (P.U.M.P. - Positive Urban Music Project) all of which running within the Boys & Girls Club of Greater New Bedford. Currently P.U.M.P. is being used within the Street SMART Program which teaches adolescent youth Gang awareness and resistance training.
Within each program
we use various teaching methods that include practical hands-on, as well as
mentoring methods and traditional
classroom settings. Although, when possible, we always try to utilize our youth within these various methods
in various peer vs. peer environments.
Our instructional program is lead by a staff of HIGHLY dedicated
and accomplished individuals, who volunteer their time to make
sure every child receives only the best experience possible
within the program.
